The large, multi-layered photographs comprising the Games series have been created in response to the rapid development of London's Lower Lea Valley in preparation for the 2012 Olympic Games.
Documenting the perimeter of the Olympic site at Stratford since 2010 with a large format camera, the resulting multiple exposures record and juxtapose national aspirations, past and present.
Isolating details from post-war housing estates and mindful of the promise of an Olympic ‘legacy’, images of Olympic super-structures are re-exposed against flora from the site’s periphery, parks and residential areas scheduled for demolition.
Faced with aggressive Developer-led regeneration on what has become prime real estate many local residents will have to relocate to cheaper areas, forced out by expensive house prices. In part the photographs reflect upon these issues and ask - what type of community are we building and for whom?
